Perspectives of a fly fishing naturalist
that is the coolest thing! The snake's not bad either... ;-) mike
Kelly thinks the snake is way cooler than the shirt.
JayI will take the shirt, I don't know about the snake.
I like the shirt too. The brand is Natural Gear- a new one for me. They make mostly camouflage hunting gear. As for the snake, It was finally time for Kelly to get one to call her own. I already had... well, let's just say a few.
What kind of snake is that?
It's a Gray-banded Kingsnake- native to Texas. I'll probably do a follow up post about Kingsnakes very soon.
Very cool snake! Is it really that bluish in color or is it just my eyes playing tricks on me?
It may be a little trickery on my part, but nothing intentional. The snake is more gray than anything, but I thought it was an interesting coincidence that Kelly got me an orange shirt and the snake has orange bands. I thought it would be cool to photograph the tiny little snake sitting on the shirt as a background. I tried to create a similar color complement using the blue-gray wall of my bathroom for the photograph of the shirt. The wall paint has definitely got some blue in it. With the close proximity of the two photos, it probably makes the snake look more blue. Of course, the snake photo color may not be entirely true to life, but I promise I did not alter it in any way.
I should add that the snake is close to shedding its skin... and many snake keepers refer to snakes as being "blue" at this time. I've never really used the phrase much myself, but it is a fairly accurate description. As the old epidermis separates from the new layer below, the snake's overall appearance takes on a milky blue color.
Best gift ever! Thanks babe!
I'm glad you like it. I only wish I had gotten it for you sooner. Sorry you had to wait so long.
Now THAT'S how you do Valentine's Day. Well played you two. Well played.
No cheesy cards (well at least I didn't get one) and no silly candy filled hearts... just cool stuff.

Thanks, D. I knew there would be a few of you out there who would think it was pretty cool.
